2009 Sustainability Results
Sustainability is an important component our corporate
strategic plans and can be encapsulated into three main
areas of focus:
Conservation
Reduce, Reuse & Recycle….At KMG Chemicals, we are focusing
on materials and energy conservation via careful management
of the environment and of our natural resources. Our
successes for fiscal year 2009 include:
- Improved raw material yields at our Matamoros plant
resulting in reduced usage and less waste generation.
- We surpassed our ISO14000 objectives for reductions
in electrical power and natural gas usage.
- Through collaboration with our customers in our
Electronic Chemicals business, 1) continued to shift
towards large recyclable and reusable containers for
chemical products versus disposable, and 2) have
reformulated some of our products with replacements made
from renewable resources versus those manufactured from
petrochemical-based materials.
Environmental Stewardship
In all our market segments, we seek to manufacture products
that will benefit the environment as we work to produce them
to increasingly strict environmental standards. In fiscal
year 2010 we:
- Successfully reduced the amount of process waste
generated across our manufacturing plants.
- Recertified for ISO14001 at our Pueblo and Milan
facilities.
- Were awarded Gold level in the Colorado
Environmental Leadership Program.
Community
Ingrained in KMG’s corporate culture is to contribute
positively to the communities in which we live and operate
through a broad range of initiatives:
- Sponsors the Pueblo Community Advisory Panel
- Participate in Houston Rodeo scholarship program.
KMG Chemicals provides a full scholarship annually for a
Texas student.
- Provides funding for a Mini-grant program that
supports middle school Math/Science/Environmental
projects
- Since 2003, have supported a wide range of projects
for an under-funded elementary school in the Matamoros
community. In fiscal year 2009, we aided in rebuilding
the school’s roof and the children’s restroom. In
addition, we helped organize graduation ceremonies and
provide merit based recognition for the students.
- Hosted the “World’s Environmental Day” in
conjunction with the Environmental Department for
Matamoros.

2009 Letter to the

other efforts towards sustainability. |
